Clarification and Adjustment Regarding the Supernote Software Roadmap

First of all, a heartfelt thank you for the incredible feedback and ideas you've poured into our software roadmap on Trello from 2022. Honestly, seeing your passion there truly means a lot to us. We believe this open roadmap is our way of building this Supernote journey with you, and it really shows us what you're hoping for down the line.

Lately, we've also been seeing some of your comments and questions about how things are progressing on the roadmap, and when certain features might land. We totally get it – when you see a card that hasn't moved in a while, or a feature you're really excited about isn't here yet, it can understandably feel like a long wait. So, we wanted to have a frank conversation about the roadmap, what we initially envisioned for it, and where we're heading together.

Shared Vision Board, Not Strict Schedule

Right from the start, the idea behind the public roadmap wasn't to create a strict "this will happen exactly when" kind of schedule. Instead, we saw it as a place to share our dreams for Supernote – where we think it could go, and our overall thoughts on how all the pieces fit together. We wanted to give you a peek into how the Supernote team is imagining the future of your devices and create a space where you could jump in with your awesome ideas.

Embracing Transparency, While Preserving Surprise

Supernote has always cherished open communication and transparency with the community. However, in the actual product development process, adjustments in priorities, overcoming technical bottlenecks, and changes in the market environment can all impact the original plans. This means that we will not, and cannot, advance every feature strictly according to the order and expectations presented on the roadmap.

Sometimes, a cool new idea pops up – maybe something you've mentioned, or something we realize could make your Supernote experience even better – and we might just jump on it and release it before it even hits the roadmap. We've done this before, hoping to bring a little unexpected joy your way.

We also realize that these "surprise" features might sometimes feel a bit out of sync with what's on the roadmap, and that can be a little confusing. So, going forward, while we'll still be exploring and innovating, we'll try our best to give you a heads-up about these unique new things a little earlier. That way, you can still look forward to the roadmap items and have some expectation for upcoming new features. We'll still aim for maximum openness, but hope you'll let us keep a few "easter eggs" to reveal at just the right moment.

To help manage expectations better and give a home to those features we all agree would be great but aren't in the immediate plans (say, the next six months), we're adding a new board called the "Wishing Well". Features that we've looked at seriously but can't fit into the near-term schedule will move over to the "Wishing Well." This way, you'll know we've heard you and considered it, and the main roadmap will give a clearer picture of what's actively being worked on.

"Done" Just Means the Beginning

When you see a feature marked as "Done" on the roadmap, that usually means the core of that feature is out there and ready for you. But software is a living thing – it never truly stops evolving. We'll keep listening to your feedback and looking internally at how we can continue to improve, refine, and add those little details to the features that are already "done." If these are smaller tweaks or just regular upkeep, we might not always put them back on the roadmap to keep it focused and easy to follow.

Supernote is what it is because of all of you and your input. We're going to keep working on finding that sweet spot between being transparent and keeping the flexibility to surprise you with unique new things. We'll also keep tweaking and improving how we present the roadmap (and our new "Wishing Well") to give you a clearer understanding of Supernote's direction of evolution.
