Every Supernote Manta is Now Giving Back to the Sea with Manta Trust

December 31, 2025

Design is a strange, messy process.

When we were working on the Supernote Manta, we hit a wall. We wanted the device to be impossibly thin, but we refused to give up on modularity or the convenience of a top-mounted USB port. For weeks, we were stuck between "sleek but fragile" and "functional but bulky."

Honestly? We were exhausted. So, we did what any frustrated creative team does: we cleared our heads and went to the aquarium.

That’s where we saw them. Manta rays.

Watching them glide was a revelation. They are these massive, powerful creatures, yet they move with a grace that looks like flying through water. But the eureka moment came when we looked at their heads, specifically their cephalic fins. They had these unique protrusions that didn't ruin their streamlined shape. They defined it.

That was the birth of the Manta’s "fin" design, the slight slope that houses our USB port and power button. The ocean solved our engineering bottleneck.

After that day, "Manta" became more than just a codename for us. We started researching these animals and quickly realized that while they inspired our best design, they’re actually in a bit of trouble. Overfishing and habitat loss are making life hard for these "birds of the sea."

During one of our late-night deep dives into the world of marine biology, we found Manta Trust.

They aren’t some giant, faceless corporate entity. They’re a group of incredibly dedicated researchers, educators, and conservationists working on the ground (and underwater) to protect manta rays and their habitats. We reached out to them.

We felt we owed a debt to the creature that gave our device its name and shape. So, we’re now making it official:

Starting on January 1, 2026, Supernote will donate $1 from every Supernote Manta sold directly to Manta Trust.

It’s a small way for us, and for you, as a Manta user, to support that the inspiration for this device continues to glide through the oceans for a long time to come.

At Supernote, we’ve always tried to be honest about who we are. We like making unique tools for focused people. But we also want to be a company that cares about the world we live in.

This partnership with Manta Trust is just the beginning. We’re looking into more ways to support animal protection and environmental causes that resonate with our community as we grow. We believe in making things that last, both enotebooks and ecosystems.

Thanks for being part of this journey with us. Stay tuned for what’s next.
